Interesting framing: "all anyone is really waiting on now is for Trump’s challengers to come to their senses..." Cheney, Romney, Kinzinger and Christie have come to their senses, i.e. they won't support Trump. I don't expect either DeSantis or Haley to "come to their senses".
Only hope for a different GOP nominee is the actuarial risk for a man of his age & health (as pointed out by The Economist’s article on this risk), given his popularity with GOP base & our (US’s) oh so clearly gameable & not fit for purpose Justice structure is at present. Even convictions — if any of these trials that are being slow walked by legal means by the Trump lawyers & compliant judges — and even imprisonment don’t bar him from running or taking office fr what I’ve read.
A big, huge priority, should the Dems get a solid trifecta in 24 should be judicial & legal reforms ASAP. We are becoming just another banana 🍌 republic where the rule of law is pretty meaningless if you’ve got cash & the oligarchs/billionaires & thus the mass & social media on your side.
